Visiting The Beautiful City of Munich

While traveling around Munich, consider one of the many modes of public transportation. Munich and much of the surrounding areas are bicycle friendly. If interested, professional bicycle tour guides are available for hire and are able to travel with you while you explore the region. In addition to bicycles, you also have the option of four public transportation systems.

Once you have established the mode of transportation, you will definately want to see the Neuschwanstein Castle, a fairy tail castle built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The castle is said to be the inspiration for the famed Sleepy Beauty Castle located at California's Disneyland. A reported 1.3 million visitors come to the castle each year.

Located in the downtown Munich area, are numerous historic buildings that have centuries old architectural design. Two of those historic buildings happen to be cathedrals. One of the ornate cathedrals is named Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady) and is recognized for its high towers and red brick structure. The Frauenkirche Cathedral is capable of holding 20,000 people. The tomb of Louis IV is also located at the church.

The second cathedral is known as Peterskirche (The Church of St. Peter) and it is the oldest church in Munich. The original church was a home for monks in the 8th century, but was destroyed in 1327 by a devestating fire. The beautiful cathedral was rebuilt in the late 1300's and proves to be just as ornate today as it was so many centuries ago.

Munich is a beautiful city full of dramatic, historic architecture enjoyed by millions of visitors each year. In addition to its rich history, Munich is also home to the Deutsches Museum, a museum which celebrates the field of science and technology. It was opened to the public in 1925 and has grown to be the largest museum of its kind in the world.

While visiting the Deutsches Museum, you will see exhibits about aerospace, agriculture and telecommunications, just to name a few. The museum houses historic advances in technology as well as interactive science experiments and demonstrations.

The city of Munich has seen its share of dark days in the first and second world war periods, in addition to the nightmare intentions of the Nazi party. Munich has survived and thrived to be the beautiful and peaceful place that it is today.
