 About Bordeaux Bordeaux is located on the south-west coast of France. It is famous for its wine industry and
known as the world's wine capital. The city spreads out along the two banks of river Garonne.
An old and beautiful bridge - the Pont-de-Pierre,
built in
1820s, connects the two parts of Bordeaux.
The city was founded in the early times (arround 300 BC) with the name "Burdigala" by a Celtic
tribe, the
Biturige Vivisci.
In the Middle Ages (12-15th centuries) Bordeaux was part of the English Kingdom. The golden age of the city
was in
18th century when it
had prosperous wine trade with the European countries and the West Indies.
Many downtown buildings date back from this century
and can be seen in that
