 About York York is a city with rich history and culture, situated on the confluence of the of the Rivers Ouse and Foss, in Northern England. It is capital of the Yorkshire county. The city boasts a number of historical monuments that witness about its great past and attracts many tourists. York was founded as a Roman town in AD 71 when Roman Emperor was Vespasian . The Roman name of the city was Eboracum. A great number of Roman finds can be now seen in the Yorkshire Museum. The City Council is responsible for 27 excavation and conservation areas. Following the collapse of the Roman Empire York was possessed consecutively by Saxons and Vikings.
