 About Stuttgart Stuttgart is the capital city of Baden-Württemberg state in southwestern Germany. Founded around 950 by the by Duke Liudolf of Swabia, son of the Holy Roman Emperor Otto I the Great , Stuttgart was originally a stud farm from where derives its name – modified version of “Stutengarten” .
In the Middle Ages the city was the seat of the dukes of Württemberg and after the Napoleon's wars here was established the royal court of the sovereign Kingdom of Württemberg. Today Stuttgart is a very well known for the Staatstheater and Staatsgalerie which make the city an distinct center of the German cultural life. The local VfB Stuttgart is a leading football team in the Bundesliga and Stuttgart was chosen for one of the 12 hosts of the Football World Cup 2006 . The city is also famous for its delicious Swabian cuisine and good wines produced here since 16th century. Popular beer festivals such as Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest and Cannstatter Wasen are held in this beautiful German city. |
