 About Manchester Manchester, also known as the industrial capital and "second city" of the United Kingdom,

situated
on the banks of the River Irwell. The town beginning is somewhere in the time of the Roman Empire. The name of the city
comes from the
old
British name "Mamucium" and "ceaster"(Latin "Castra"). Manchester was a small market settlement until
the Industrial Revolution in 18th
century. The
damp climate of the city and the region was ideal for cotton production, spinning and weaving.
For a short period of time Manchester
turned into the
world's most important industrial center, being in the global British Empire.
Manchester has two universities. The city's
architecture is extremely rich
in beautiful buildings from Victorian through modern time.
Manchester is also known for its excellent theatres,
museums, restaurants, busy squares and
