 About Cork Cork, also called Corcaigh, is situated on the River Lee in the southern part of the Republic of Ireland. The larger part of the city center occupies an island in the river. Cork Harbor is the main Irish seaport and one of the world’s biggest natural harbors. Cork is the second most populous city in the country. Its name comes from the old Irish word “corach” with the meaning of “marshy land”. The city is an attractive tourist destination.
