 About Cologne Cologne (Köln in German) is situated on the River Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia Federal State of Germany. It is the fourth largest German city, economic and cultural capital of the Rhineland. Cologne has very rich history which makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. It was founded as a Roman military camp in 50 A.D . In 310 the Roman emperor Constantine The Great built here bridge over the Rhine. This turned Cologne into main transportation, commercial and urban center in the Roman province of Germany. In 785 the city became the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne - one of the seven Electors of the Holy Roman Empire. The world wide famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is a gothic structure built in 1248. It is the seat of the catholic Archbishop of Cologne and the tallest catholic church in the world. In Cologne is produced the well known beer Kölsch. With identical name is the local dialect which has led to the joke “ Kölsch – this is the only language you can drink”.
