About Brighton Brighton is world wide known seaside resort in the United Kingdom. It is situated in the county of Sussex, on the coast of South-Eastern England.
Brighton and the surrounding area are inhabited since Prehistoric times. Some concentric circles of ditches and mounds dating back to the period between 3500 - 1500BC witness about that. The Celts built here the Hollingbury hillfort, commanding panoramic views over the region. The Romans built a villa in second century AD south of what is now Preston Park. Brighton grew into an important seaside resort in 18th century when the young Prince Regent, known later as King George IV, spent most of his leisure time here and built an exotic-looking Royal Pavilion in Indian style architecture. |
