About Birmingham Birmingham is the second largest city in the United Kingdom after London situated in the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. The Red Mountain divides the city into two parts – north and south. Once Birmingham was the city of mining industry and today it is an important center of banking and medical research. The Birmingham University of Alabama occupies most of the downtown area. Five Points on the Southside is the most often visited place by the tourists. There are many fine restaurants and night clubs with live music. Our advice is to avoid North Birmingham – you will likely to get robbed there and there is nothing interesting to see. The Birmingham International Airport offers very convenient transportation to many destinations, through connecting flights in Atlanta, New Orleans and Charlotte. |
